Morning Session: The Business and Marketiing of Promoting Books

Afternoon Session: The Joy of Writing

Patzi Gil

Our guest speaker is Patzi Gil, host of the syndicated radio program “Joy on Paper.” In her words, “My goal is to help authors reach readers and to inspire those who are dreaming of writing to follow their dream. It’s my joy to talk every week to amazing authors—from best-selling New York Times authors to those who’ve just released their first book.”

Patzi Gil began her radio program on the Tan Talk Radio Network (WTAN 1340) just over four years ago. In that short period of time she has had incredible success. After starting with one morning a week she expanded to twice a week. By the first anniversary of Joy on Paper, the program was syndicated on forty-seven stations across the country.

She credits the success of her show with a moment of inspiration: “When I started I had no idea what I was doing, but as I have read over 10,000 books it is easy for me to find something in common with every author and – most importantly – I knew that we would share the JOY of writing.”

It is for this reason that Patzi’s radio program is so distinctive. She has an ability to form a bond with writers that is unlike any other interviewer. She has established a personal relationship with dozens of NYT bestselling authors like Margaret George, who invited PatZi to a tea party at her home in Madison, Wisconsin.

Among her guests are Mystery Writer of America Grand Masters: Mary Higgins Clark, Lawrence Block, Carolyn Hart, Robert Crais, Sara Paretsky, Sue Grafton, Marcia Muller, Bill Pronzini, Margaret Maron. Global Bestselling Authors: David Baldacci, Lee Child, Nelson DeMille, Daniel Silva, Robin Cook, and Clive Cussler.

Patzi works closely with the top publicists from the major publishing houses, like Random House/ Penguin, Kensington, Harper Collins, Pegasus and many others in order to set up interviews on the release dates of their bestselling authors.

Joy on Paper is a Syndicated Radio Program that runs every Tuesday & Thursday at 11 am EST with Patzi Gil as creator and host. One of Patzi’s proudest accomplishments is that she is able to interview local writers and help them gain a wider audience. She devotes several interviews a month to local writers and also interviews famous literary agents who share their advice on how to break into the publishing business.

Patzi is a scriptwriter. Three of her spec scripts were optioned in Hollywood and featured in a full page ad in the Hollywood Reporter. She has also adapted several books for film companies, including Apollo Astronaut Walt Cunninghan’s All American Boys. She is on IMDb and prior to starting her radio program, PatZi created two television programs, History? It’s Food! and Forgotten F-105 Warriors. She wrote and produced a promotional film (sizzle reel) for the Forgotten F-105 Warriors project and has completed the initial scripts for both of these projects.

The Tan Talk Radio Network is a popular radio station in the Tampa Bay area and extends its reach with five stations: three AM station (WTAN 1340) and two FM stations (locally 106.1). However, Patzi’s reach is far greater. Her program is broadcast live on TuneIn live and she has fans as far away as Australia and the Ukraine.

“JOY ON PAPER is a radio program that is not just for writers – but for everyone who wants to hear from their favorite authors and to learn the story behind the book…”
