March 14, 2020 – Rhonda Penders and Sharon Belcastro

Both Sessions: The hows and whys of submitting to publishers and agents

Where should your story start? Rhonda and Sharon will present what a publisher and an agent look for from an author and the how and why to get published.

What grabs the attention of an editor or agent, as well as readers, in the first few pages of a book? During their workshop, Rhonda and Sharon will take the first three pages of volunteers’ manuscripts and read them out loud and gently critique them. With help from the audience, they will discuss what the author can do to strengthen the story.

Bring a copy of the first three (3) pages of your typed manuscript to the March 14, 2020, TARA meeting in this format:

  • The first three pages copied one-sided on 8.5 x 11 white paper
  • At least 3/4″ margins on the top, bottom, left and right sides
  • Minimum 12 point font. Times New Roman preferred
  • The text must be at least 1.15 line space, aligned left, and unjustified right
  • Please indent the paragraphs
  • You may list your name or stay anonymous

TARA members will get the first chance to have one manuscript read. If time allows, non-members and members with more than one manuscript will receive a reading.

Our speakers will take pitches in the afternoon if time allows.
